Bulgaria

Just back from a super quick trip to Bulgaria. It is amazing to see what a difference a new airport makes. The new airport has now been open a few months and seem rather nice and shiny. The old airport was just absolutely a terrible place. The hotels in the city were all fully booked, so we stayed in the Hotel Vega and it was really nice. It is new and very stylishly decorated.
Everything I did, seemed to have been a bit of a blur as I had a lot of things on my agenda to get ticked off. Several small trips to the city center was well uhm uneventful. They seem to be digging up many roads just like the rest of Europe. Driving seems to be a national combat sport.. Parking and driving through the narrow streets was a nightmare. I fail to see why anyone would want to hire a car to be in Sofia. It will be madness. Taxis are an option, but my experience is that very very few speak any English, so be sure to write down any addresses you are going to. Also let the hotel staff translate it in Cyrillic for you. It will make it a lot easier.
The weather was great, but already people are complaining about the poor winter and high temperatures in April. Flying back to Edinburgh was uneventful and it was great setting foot back home again.
