Madrid
Wow. First visit to Spain. Now my first impressions of Spain was from brochures and what people have told me.
Warm days. Blue skies. No rain.
Ahem yes.
First day. Torrential rain and storms. I was told this is the first rain for the year. Fair enough, I cannot complain as the country desperately needs rain. Being from Africa, I know what the first rains mean to the people. However a hurricane decided to pass through parts of the country and, well, make things interesting. Of course, even more interesting, flights got delayed and my luggage went the scenic route. There was no sign of my luggage on day 2.
Considering I was to check out on day 3 to fly back to the UK, I was not hopeful that my luggage would show up. This was no dampener though as there was still lots to do. Some friends picked me up and we went for some dinner. Wow. The first night was a tad hectic since my spanish is a bit limited to say the least. I ordered some food, which I knew was lamb. What I did not know was it was sheep testicles… Only when the friends joined me did they tell me what I was having. By this time it was too late. Most of it was waaaaay down to my belly. Oh well. The second day, they took pity on me. I was still hopeful about my luggage arriving. No news about this yet. Lunch was fantastic. Eating habits are a bit odd. They would eat late in the afternoon for lunch, then again late in the evening (11pm) for dinner. It was great, except we went to a pub that served Glenfarclas whisky. Usually this is an exclusive whisky, but this pub seemed to have everything to do with Glenfarclas. Once the owner found out I was from Scotland, he plied me with generous amounts of the good stuff. I only managed to crawl into bed after 4 am. Oh man, what a hangover the next day…. I had to be up for 7am the next day. It was not pretty.
The Wednesday happened to be some public holiday. Which was some kind of saving grace. Most places were closed, but I did get taken for the biggest steak, even I have seen. I managed quietly. It was massive though. My luggage still have not arrived and I had to go do some shopping. I used all of my per diem to get some clothes. I was also informed that I was to chair a meeting to a very important client the next day. I have had to convince a major company to invest millions into a project. We had a meeting and gave it my best shot. As soon as we left, the guys were back on the phone to let us know we were successful and they wish to go to the next level. They would send one of their consultants for a course within a few weeks. Nice. When I checked out the hotel, I saw my bag in the foyer.
The concierge noted that it had arrived a few minutes earlier and that he not had the time to send it to my room. Getting my own clothes back. It was like seeing an old friend again. The flight back to the UK was rather uneventful. I slept most of the way to try and catch up on some lost sleep.
I have not uploaded the pictures yet, but they will be soon forthcoming
